Saskatchewan Party MLA
Report from the Legislature
With harvest in full swing, highway construction ongoing, and students preparing to head back to school, this is a busy time in Saskatchewan.
The last long weekend of the summer has arrived and I hope it brings an opportunity for you to enjoy some recreation and relaxation.
From day-trips to extended camping experiences, provincial parks have proven to be popular destinations for families.
We want to ensure a positive experience for visitors and their families which is why we are investing more than $1.5 million in facility and infrastructure improvements for parks in the South West.
Upgrades scheduled for completion prior to the 2019 camping season include:
• Boat launch improvements at Buffalo Pound Provincial Park;
• Campground electrical expansion at Shady Pine campground in Cypress Hills Interpro- vincial Park;
• Completion of campground electrical service improvements in Douglas Provincial Park and Danielson Provincial Park;
• Completion of interpretive displays in the new visitor reception centre in Douglas Provincial Park;
• New digital messaging sign at Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park; and
• Sewage lagoon upgrades at Douglas Provincial Park.
The $1.5 million is in addition to more than $12 million invested in South West parks over the past five years for improvements including new service centres; additional full-service campsites; major road upgrades; new visitor reception centre; and electrical campground expansions and upgrades.
On the road to our parks and other places, please remember to pay attention and be patient in work zones where major improvements are currently underway.
Saskatchewan highways projects include:
• Construction on new passing lanes on Highway 4 between North Battleford and Cochin;
• Grading for future twinning around Vanscoy on Highway 7;
• Construction of new overpasses on Highways 11 and 12 near Martensville and Warman;
• Surfacing on Highway 26 and several culvert installations between the Vawn access and Edam;
• About 10 km of surface improvements on Highway 51 about 10 km west of the Highway 4 junction; and
• Seal coating near Glaslyn and Macklin.
Remember to obey signs and slow down, so everyone can enjoy the Labour Day long weekend and get home safely.
