Challenge yourself! Learn to play Mahjong at the Swift Current Branch Library every Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. Mahjong is a tile-based game that originated in China. The game is played with a set of 144 tiles based on Chinese characters and symbols and is very similar to the card game Rummy. Harvest dinner and music jam at the Manyberries Community Hall. Music jam starts at 2 pm and the dinner starts at 5 pm. Come listen, dance, or perform. Discover what really affects your weight and redefine your relationship with food and your body. This program is offered by the Saskatchewan Health Authority for individuals who are interested in managing their weight and improving their overall health and well- being. Topics include factors that affect weight, mindful eating, goal setting, nutrients for health, meal planning, label reading and more. The next LiveWell with Chronic Pain workshop runs from Sept. 19 to Oct. 24 on Wednesdays from 6-8 p.m. This is a free program offered by the Saskatchewan Health Authority for individuals experiencing chronic pain. Trained peer leaders meet with groups of up to 12 participants for 2 to 2.5 hours, once per week, for six consecutive weeks. Participants learn tools to help manage pain and common challenges such as fatigue, physical limitations and difficult emotions. Classes are fun and interactive. The emphasis is on building skills for managing health and maintaining an active and fulfilling life. Caregivers are welcome to attend. There is no cost for this program and each participant receives a free copy of the book Living a Healthy Life with Chronic Pain and the Moving Easy Program CD. To register or call 306-778-5445.

The Taste of Nations is a one-day festival honouring Alberta’s cultural heritage and cultural diversity. It is held annually over the Alberta Culture Days weekend in the JBS Canada Centre in Brooks. Thousands of people across Southern Alberta can sample food from booths while sharing in the entertainment, artwork and crafts, clothing and much more. Visitors will learn about various cultures from display. There will also be live performances all day.
