Since 2010, the Farm Credit Canada’s Brooks office has hosted FCC’s Outstanding in the Field for Brooks and area Grade 4 students to learn about various sectors of Canadian agriculture, including dairy, beef, sheep, hog and poultry.

This year, those in the County of Newell will benefit as the Silver Sage Corral just outside of Brooks will be the location of this event. It goes Oct. 24 starting at 10 a.m.

Throughout the day, students participate in 10-minute sessions, which include interactive activities, such as making canola oil, brushing a horse, or processing a lamb. Participating organizations include Scandia Honey, Canola Growers, Potato Growers of Alberta, Alfalfa Seed Commission and the Alberta Chicken producers.

About 400 students are expected to participate in this year’s event and media is invited to attend.
