Saska­toon writer Suzanne North was the fea­tured au­thor at Write Out Loud in Swift Cur­rent, Oct. 17 (above right). She is the au­thor of the Phoebe Fair­fax mys­tery se­ries, but her pre­sen­ta­tion fo­cused on her most re­cent novel Fly­ing Time, which is a depar­ture from her pre­vi­ous work. It won the Univer­sity of Regina Book of the Year award cat­e­gory at the 2015 Saskatchew­an Book Awards. This fic­tional mem­oir re­flects on racial an­i­mos­ity to­wards Ja­panese Cana­di­ans dur­ing the Sec­ond World War. The Write Out Loud se­ries at the Lyric Theatre presents read­ings by Cana­dian au­thors to lo­cal lit­er­ary fans. The next event on Nov. 21 fea­tures au­thor and play­wright Dwayne Brenna. His lat­est novel New Al­bion won a fic­tion award at the 2017 Saskatchew­an Book Awards and was short­listed for the pres­ti­gious MM Ben­netts Award for His­tor­i­cal Fic­tion.
