Special night as Broncos help SJHL Broncos Nov. 2
The Swift Current Broncos started November on a high note with two home ice wins, both in overtime. The Broncos got their fans cheering when they recorded their first victory on home ice this season with a 5-4 win against the Lethbridge Hurricanes, Nov. 2.
Broncos defenceman Noah King scored the overtime winner at 2:59 in extra time. The Broncos win was a perfect finish to a memorable evening. The team hosted Broncos Strong night and played in special memorial jerseys designed by Broncos alumnus Taylor Vause to commemorate the bus accidents that claimed the lives of Swift Current Broncos and Humboldt Broncos players. The game jersey auction and jersey raffles, as well as sale of Broncos Strong merchandise and other donations raised $28,750 that was donated to four different non-profit organizations: STARS air ambulance (#23,500), FAv Foundation ($1,750), Hockey Give Blood ($1,750), and Saskatchewan Brain Injury Association ($1,750). The Broncos played their second home game of the weekend against the Edmonton Oil Kings, Nov. 3. Broncos goalie Isaac Poulter was solid in the third period, when the Oil Kings made 21 shots at goal but only scored once to level the game at three goals each. Andrew Fyten scored the winning goal for the Broncos only 41 seconds after the start of overtime.
For their next home game the Broncos will host the Red Deer Rebels on Nov. 11 with an afternoon starting time of 4 p.m.
