Families looking for an activity to keep busy on Family Day can head to the Rec-Tangle in Redcliff for a few hours of skating and socializing, thanks to the Lions Club is hosting the event.

After hosting the event himself a couple of years ago, Redcliff resident Phil Monteith approached the Lions Club and the Town about holding an annual skating event at the Rec-Tangle on Family Day.

Monteith noted that for each of the years the event has been held, 200-300 people came out to skate and socialize.

The Redcliff Lions Club is also looking for people to donate used skates, an initiative started last year when they collected several pairs of skates for young people that were donated to I.F. Cox School.

“They were skates for young kids, so they went to I.F. Cox. Schools take their students skating, so these are for kids who may not have been able to take part,” said Monteith.

Anybody looking to donate skates can drop them off at Redcliff Town Hall, Municipal Library, or the RecTangle.

The Town of Redcliff, Redcliff fire department, RCMP, and FCSS are co-sponsoring the event.

The annual Redcliff Lions Family Skate will take place at the Rec-Tangle on Feb. 18 from 10 am to 1 pm. There will also be free hot chocolate, coffee, and hot dogs.

For further information, Monteith can be reached at 403-502-4911.
