Bill Lee, who has been the driving force behind the initiative to establish a monument near the Swift Current Broncos bus crash site, hosted a lunch on Feb. 8 for families and those who assisted him with the project.

Swift Current MLA Everett Hindley and RM of Swift Current Reeve Bob Neufeld spoke during the event.

Lee expressed thanks to those who helped him to realize his dream to create a memorial for the four Broncos players.

The monument was officially unveiled in December 2016 and since then he has continued to make upgrades at the site. Security cameras and lights have recently been installed and the landscaping will start in the spring. Paving of the parking area will continue in the fall, and Lee is planning to obtain approval of highway signs to indicate the location of the site.

“There's always something,” he said. “So if anybody wants to come help me, they’re more than welcome.”
