Motherhood Out Loud arriving on time at the Lyric

-

The Lyric Theatre is ready to burst: filled with crib mobiles, stuffed toys, rubber balls, shopping carts, and wedding dresses. Motherhood Out Loud is due any day now.

Adapted, directed and designed by the Lyric’s Artistic Director, Gordon McCall, Motherhood Out Loud is The Lyric’s third – and final – instalment in its first season of the Sparks in the Dark play series.

The series of vignettes about all aspects of motherhood features a cast of four very well-known local actors: Amy Couzens, who played the title role in Mary’s Wedding, Tara Garcia, Wendy Lockman, and Joey Donnelly.

The familiar faces extend behind the scenes, too. Mark Soper rejoins the team for a hat trick as Stage Manager, Marc Ruel is on sound, and Emmanuel de Gala and Zac Oliver have stepped back stage for the production.

Says McCall, “You don’t want to miss this play – a celebration of motherhood, parenting, and everything in between. It will tickle your funny bone on the way to your heart.”

The two-act comedy runs over two weekends, with four matinees and five evening performances. Tickets are $17 for students, and $20 for adults, available only at Pharmasave. Given the success and sold-out nights of their first two plays, Mary’s Wedding and Merry Munsch, McCall encourages people to get their tickets now. Despite the title, McCall assures us that the play is for everyone. “This is a play for mothers and grandmothers, and anyone who has a mother or knows one.”

And, yes, husbands can come, too. Performance dates and times: March 22 – 8 p.m.; March 23 – 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.; March 24 – 2 p.m.; March 28 – 8 p.m.; March 29 – 8 p.m.; March 30 – 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.; March 31 – 2 p.m.
