Coaldale Fun Run approaches

- CONTRIBUTED

Does the shining sun put an extra beat into your step? Embrace that happy energy by attending Coaldale’s ninth annual 5K Family Fun Run, a community event that inspires individuals and families to get out and get active. Last year’s event was an overwhelming success when 719 entrants signed up to join in the fun. The Corporate Team Challenge and the School Team Challenge are a great initiative that organizers feel contributed to the 70% increase from the previous year.

Melanie Harthoorn, race organizer, notes that race participation has increased 200% since its inception in 2011.

“We are thrilled to experience such great support from community members, businesses and sponsors”.

This race truly is an event for all ages and abilities. With its professional chip timing and flat, easy course, it appeals to everyone from the competitive runner to the parent with young ones. The Mayor of Coaldale, Kim Craig, notes “It is a sure sign of spring when the Coaldale Family Fun Run hits the calendar”. The Town of Coaldale office, including the fire department, look forward to participating in this year’s corporate challenge as they have in the past few years. As Coaldale celebrates its 100th year in 2019 they are especially delighted to take part in this event and hope it continues for many years to come.

“While I can’t guarantee the Family Fun Run’s centennial date at this time, I would like to point out that our 10th or “tin” anniversary is taking place next year!” says Colleen Van Raalte, marketing coordinator.

The Corporate Team Challenge is well on its way as nine businesses have agreed to come on board with this year’s friendly competition. Join us on race day where businesses will be visible in corporate swag, kids will be sporting school colors, and the Coaldale and District Emergency Services will be decked out in fire protection gear! This chip-timed race will kick off at Coaldale Christian School on Saturday, April 13 at 10 a.m. and will take a course through scenic rural Coaldale. Participants can be assured of the safety of the course since this easy-to-follow route is closed to traffic. All registered participants will be entered into a prize draw. In addition to medals for the fastest three competitors in every category, special prizes are also awarded to the youngest and oldest participants as well as the largest family and fastest stroller pusher! Ribbons are also given to our youngest racers as they cross the finish line for a job well done.

To register for this event visit racepro.ca/coaldale. Youth ages 15 and under can sign up for just $10, adults for $20. All registration fees include race package, refreshments and prizes.

The Coaldale Food Bank will receive a $2 donation from every entry.
