Parents! Check out the exciting children’s programs we have going on weekly at the Swift Current Branch Library. On Fridays at 10 am, have loads of fun at Baby Steps. At this program, children ages 3 and under will enjoy finger rhymes and sing songs, and then at 10:30 am enjoy Romp ‘n’ Read. At Swift Current’s July 13 Market Square: Join A New Ground -celebrated Celtic folk duo, who are proud to return to Market Square Swift Current Saturday July 13. A New Ground performs 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. July 13-14 - Empress

Empress River Valley Motorcycle Toy and Poker Run hosted by the Empress/ Bindloss Ag Society will be riding for Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southern and Central Alberta. The event is open to all makes and models. Registrati­on of $35/ person includes supper, dance, and one poker hand. There will be outdoor vendors, beer gardens (no minors), and biker games starting at 7 pm on July 13. There will also be a Kiddie Carnival, motorcycle show ’n’ shine (July 14), and live music. Prairie Wind & Silver Sage Author Reading Series: Prairie Wind & Silver Sage presents Ted Barris reading from Fire Canoe, Tuesday July 16 at 7 p.m. Pass the Hat admission, cash bar. Fire Canoe brings the first-hand account of the steamboat packet owners, captains, stevedores, immigrants, soldiers and carpetbagg­ers who travelled the South Saskatchew­an and Red rivers between 1859 and the turn of the 19th century. The tales of their arrival, the exploits of the people they carried, the impact of their regularly scheduled trips on the waterways across the prairies all come alive in Barris’ unique you-are-there storytelli­ng. A former producer and broadcaste­r at CFQC radio and CBC Saskatchew­an, Barris is the author of 19 best-selling books, including the recently released Dam Busters, Victory at Vimy, and Juno. Challenge yourself ! Come and learn to play Mahjong at the Swift Current Branch Library every Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. Mahjong is a tile-based game that originated in China. The game is played with a set of 144 tiles based on Chinese characters and symbols and is similar to the card game Rummy. This program is beginner friendly, but also fun for avid players as well.
