Federal government needs to increase its overall funding to Global Fund
Editor:
The Global Fund has been a signature piece in Canada’s foreign aid through three prime ministers. Each PM found it fit to increase Canada’s contribution because of the excellent work it continues to do to save the lives and improve the health of the most vulnerable by tackling AIDS, TB and malaria head on.
That is now at risk. With other countries – including the U.S. - ramping up contributions to meet increased need, Canada has put its toe on the brakes.
Timid driving will not prevent the death of millions annually from these diseases or turn the tide on polio or reverse the decline in vaccinations. Canada must find another gear and increase its contribution to the Global Fund.
