A huge doll has taken up residence on the roof of the R.C. Dahl Centre in Swift Current, directly above the main entrance to the art gallery and public library. The installation of this attention-grabbing art piece took place Aug. 1. It is part of the Summer Salon, which is currently hosted by the Art Gallery of Swift Current. The exhibition features the work of 30 professional artists from across southwest Saskatchewan. This field doll was created by sculptor and multimedia artist Heather Benning, who is the associate curator at the Art Gallery of Swift Current. She has previously exhibited and photographed this doll at various locations in Canada and the United States. Some of those photographs are on display in the Summer Salon. The unexpected placement of the doll into a scene is a reflection on place and change that can create a sense of wackiness or a feeling of otherness.
