SAVOURIN’ THE RIBS:
The 2nd annual outdoor Ribfest took place in the Living Sky Casino parking lot in Swift Current, Aug. 2-4. The event was hosted by the casino in partnership with the Dr. Noble Irwin Regional Healthcare Foundation. The sale of business sponsorships for the event raised close to $20,000 for the Healthcare Foundation's Close to the Heart campaign, which aims to raise a total of $350,000 for the purchase of a new digital mammography unit for the Cypress Regional Hospital. Ribfest patrons were able to savour southern-style barbeque prepared by champion ribbers Prairie Smoke & Spice BBQ from Pilot Butte and Bordertown BBQ from Lloydminster. Celebrity judges tried out the offerings from both ribbers on Aug. 4, and gave the nod to Bordertown BBQ in the award categories of best ribs and best sauce. Ribfest visitors could vote online for their favourite ribber, and the people's choice award went to Prairie Smoke & Spice BBQ.
