Warrants lead to multiple charges
On January 11, 2020, the Swift Current Municipal RCMP began an investigation into a garage break and enter where firearms were stolen.
Through the investigation, police officers from both Swift Current and Maple Creek Detachments have executed two search warrants and have recovered a number of the firearms that were stolen and have laid the following charges:
23-year-old Donny Gurney from Swift Current (released on bail conditions – next appearance was March 4):
1. Possession of a firearm for the purpose of trafficking;
2. Unauthorized possession of a firearm;
3. Possession of stolen property;
4. Trafficking in stolen property.
21-year-old Cody HAMMER from Swift Current (released on bail conditions – next appearance is March 11, 2020):
1. Unauthorized possession of a firearm;
2. Possession of prohibited firearm;
3. Possession of a firearm knowing it was obtained by crime;
4. Unsafe storage of a firearm;
5. Tamper with a serial number on a firearm;
6. Possession of a firearm for the purpose of trafficking;
7. Possession of stolen property;
8. Trafficking in stolen property.
48-year-old Christopher FOSTER from Swift Current (in custody on other matters and next appearance is March 18, 2020):
1. Possession of a firearm contrary to an Order;
2. Unauthorized possession of a firearm;
3. Trafficking in stolen property;
4. Possession of stolen property;
5. Possession of a firearm for the purpose of trafficking.
40-year-old Tyrone Stanley of Maple Creek (remanded into custody – next appearance was March 4):
1. Possession of a firearm contrary to an Order;
2. Unauthorized possession of a firearm;
3. Trafficking in stolen property;
4. Possession of stolen property;
5. Possession of a firearm for the purpose of trafficking.
