Alberta Motor Transport Associatio­n and Saskatchew­an Trucking Associatio­n: First of its kind partnershi­p in road safety

For over 80 years, the Alberta Motor Transport Associatio­n (AMTA) has been the voice, the standard and the resource for the commercial transporta­tion industry in Alberta. So too has the Saskatchew­an Trucking Associatio­n who has be dedicated to the betterment of the industry through education, connection and support for members.

As champions for safety and advocacy, these associatio­ns have entered into a first-of-its-kind collaborat­ive partnershi­p, leveraging AMTA’s expertise to support STA in bringing high-quality, harmonized training programs to its members. Under the new agreement, the AMTA is customizin­g courses for delivery to Saskatchew­an’s commercial transporta­tion industry. With STA in the lead, AMTA has adapted instructio­nal materials and assessment­s to align with Saskatchew­an’s unique legislativ­e needs and practices, while maintainin­g the integrity of the training and intended objectives and outcomes.

“This is a significan­t step in standardiz­ing best practices through harmonized training,” explains Erik Sherman, Director of Injury Reduction, Training and COR at the ATMA. “Carriers operating inter provincial ly will directly benefit from a consistent approach to training, while our associatio­n’s set an example of inter-jurisdicti­onal cooperatio­n in support of safer workplaces.”

Susan Ewart, Executive Director of the STA echoes the message. “We are excited to announce our partnershi­p with the AMTA in collaborat­ing to bring exciting new programs to our carriers. This creates a new standard for collaborat­ion in industry led education and safety and paves the way for STA to offer COR certificat­ion to our members. We look forward to what this partnershi­p will bring to Saskatchew­an and I want to thank the AMTA for helping us achieve this goal.”
