Registration is now open for this year’s Prairie Cereals Summit (PCS) to be held at the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel, December 9 -10.

Hosted by the Alberta Wheat and Barley Commissions, the twoday event will be held in person in full compliance with Alberta Health Services (AHS) guidelines for public gatherings. It includes a full day conference covering numerous cereals and agriculture industry topics and also serves as the venue for the Alberta Barley Commission Annual General Meeting (AGM).

This year’s conference keynote speaker is well-known commentator Dr. Sylvain Charlebois of Dalhousie University presenting on The pandemic's legacy on our food supply chain

The 2020 conference will take on a different format with two rooms for presenters and guests to maintain social distancing and comply with AHS guidelines. Registrations will be capped at a maximum of 150. All PCS attendees will be required to sign a waiver and wear a mask in common areas as per the AHS mandate.

“We are pleased to host PCS in person with physical distancing and proper protocols in place to ensure the safety of all attendees,” said Dave Bishop, Alberta Barley chair. “PCS is a valuable event that showcases research and agronomy activities, value chain initiatives, our global competitiveness and other relevant industry topics, all at an affordable rate.”

In addition to the conference portion, PCS has a beer tasting session that spotlights Alberta’s high quality beer, plus a banquet supper with entertainment to close the two-day event.

“PCS is a great opportunity for Alberta farmers to network in a safe manner with our expert guest speakers, as well as industry professionals and other farmers,” said Todd Hames, Alberta Wheat Commission chair. “This year’s smaller setting will allow for more direct engagement amongst speakers, farmers and other guests. We are excited to unveil our exciting agenda over the coming weeks.”

PCS also features Alberta Barley’s delegate and director session and AGM on December 9, at 3 p.m., which farmers are encouraged to attend.

Registration is now open for PCS. Producers and industry members can take advantage of the early bird rate up to the November 15 deadline. Additionally, the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel offers PCS attendees the affordable room rate of $189 per night. To see the full PCS agenda, click here.
