The Western Canadian Wheat Growers offers congratulations to both CN Rail and CP for the record volume of grain and grain products moved in January 2021.

“Our international customers depend upon reliable grain delivery to move our products from the local terminal to port, almost exclusively by rail. Winter months have been a transportation challenge in the past, but this year, record volumes of our grain was successfully moved,” said Daryl Fransoo, Chair.

With over 20 million metric tonnes or 90% of the wheat grown in Western Canada being exported, a reliable transportation chain is paramount. The Canadian grain and oilseeds market is largely offshore. With stiff competition, we need to be certain our product moves efficiently to those markets.

To lose our competitive edge through transportation slowdowns, input costs or weather disasters means our competitors take the upper hand. In a global market, we need to be efficient and effective with the issues we can control. Grain and oil seed exports play a key role in stabilizing and growing the Canadian economy as we move through this global pandemic.

“We are reassured that this puts Canada back on track as a reliable shipper and grain farmers expect it to stay that way. Both rail companies deserve credit for upping their game and we ask them to continue to grow this level of service,” closed Jim Wickett, Secretary-Treasurer of the Wehat Growers

The Western Canadian Wheat Growers Association is a voluntary farmer-run advocacy organization dedicated to developing public policy solutions that strengthen the profitability and sustainability of farming, and the agricultural industry as a whole. The 50th anniversary book, “Warriors For Wheat” is available to purchase online.
