Métis of the Cypress Hills Stories of Culture, Recreation, and Sport with Royce Pettyjohn goes Feb. 15, 7-8:30 p.m.
Pettyjohn has a long history of learning about Métis sport and recreational activities in the Cypress Hills in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, through his work at Fort Walsh NHSC as well as listening to his late Grandfather Willard A. Dumont tell stories.
Pettyjohn will share First Nations stories in relation to the NWMP and early settlement, as well as Métis, NWMP, and early settlement sports and recreation particularly where there is a cross-over between Indigenous and non-Indigenous residents and participants.
Pettyjohn will reflect on how early sports and recreational activity continues to manifest itself today as Living Heritage in the form of Pow Wows, The Hills are Alive Métis Festival, Rodeo, and the Battle of the Little Big Puck.
