- By James Tubb Alberta Newspaper Group

A new grant will cut one-third of the cost of YMCA day camps in Medicine Hat this summer, the organization announced last week.

The United Way’s Steve Murphy Fund will provide $30,000 to be evenly applied to registration costs, bringing the weekly cost of the camps to $150.

“Part of supporting healthy communities is ensuring that families have a safe, affordable place to send their children for the day.” said Sharon Hayward, CEO of the YMCA of Medicine Hat.

“We are extremely grateful to the United Way for this support.”

The discount will also be available on one-day camps which align with school PD days in May and next fall.

This year’s camps revolve around sports, art, nature and a variety of themes.

More information is available on the YMCA’s website.
