- Contributed

On May 7, at approximately 8 p.m., Brooks RCMP were called to a report of a woman and child found deceased at their home in Newell County, Alta. The father of the child arrived home and discovered the bodies of the 29-year-old woman and their 8-month-old daughter.

Major Crimes Investigators were contacted to assist with the investigation and a search of the area located a deceased male a short distance away. Autopsies will be performed on May 10, 2022, however, RCMP wish to inform the public that this male has been tentatively identified as a sibling of the deceased female and appears to have died from apparent self-inflicted injuries. As a result, there is no risk to the public.

“This is a tragic loss of life and very difficult circumstances for the family and community of the victims,” says S/Sgt. Erick Youngstrom of the Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit. “We will be continuing to investigate and seeking to determine what took place. The family has asked for privacy at this time.”

No additional information will be provided.
