For Immediate Release (October 27, 2022): The Alberta-NWT Command of The Royal Canadian Legion is honoured to have presented Her Honour, the Honourable Salma Lakhani, AOE, B.Sc., LLD (hon), Lieutenant Governor of Alberta with the First Poppy at a ceremony in Edmonton today.

“The Pinning of the First Poppy is an important tradition for Veterans and The Royal Canadian Legion” said Tammy Wheeler, Executive Director of the Alberta-NWT Command. “It serves to commemorate the strong link that Canada’s Veterans have with the Sovereign and to remind all of us of the importance to never forget what has been sacrificed to ensure the freedoms that all Canadians enjoy today.”

“The Legion’s Annual Poppy Campaign is important to remind Canadians of what Veterans have done for all of us and it marks our single largest annual fund-raising initiative” said Rosalind LaRose, President of the Alberta-NWT Command. “Donations that people make when they take a Poppy directly fund the supports and services that The Legion provides to Veterans and their families - it is a small thanks for the huge contribution that Veterans have made to all Canadians.” Poppy boxes are available at venues across Alberta, and many include options to make a donation online or by a text message. www.poppyboxabnwt.com www.abnwtlegion.com
