High-speed car chase near Maple Creek ends with arrest, two wrecked RCMP cruisers

- Alberta Newspaper Group

Two RCMP cruisers are wrecked and a man and woman from Prince Edward Island are in custody after a high-speed pursuit ended near Maple Creek, Sask. on Sunday morning, Mounties say.

Swift Current municipal RCMP officers say they approached a stolen vehicle at about 9:25 a.m. on North Service Road, but the vehicle sped away after striking and disabling the RCMP cruiser. Another responding officer was forced off the road on the Trans-Canada Highway, and the westbound suspect vehicle continued in the eastbound lanes through Gull Lake at high rates of speed.

Police resumed the pursuit of the vehicle, which entered Maple Creek but blew two tires on a spike belt that had been laid out by police. Two officers were then able to manoeuvre the car off the road and arrest two occupants.

Brandon Condon-White, 24, of Montague, P.E.I., and Kendall Marie Hardt, 29, of Charlottetown, are each charged with two counts of assaulting a police officer with a weapon, three counts of mischief over $5,000, along with single counts of flight from police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, possession of stolen property above $5,000.

They are scheduled to appear in Swift Current Provincial Court on Nov. 2.
