SWIFT CURRENT REMEMBERS:

-

The 2022 commemoration of Remembrance Day in Swift Current returned to the pre-pandemic format after two years of scaled- down activities. Remembrance Week started on Nov. 7 with the raising of the poppy flag on Market Square. A silent vigil took place overnight at the Memorial Park cenotaph from Nov. 10 until Remembrance Day morning. Members of 605 Tarry Squadron Royal Canadian Air Cadets stood on guard during initial shifts and first responders carried out the overnight shifts. There were two ceremonies on Remembrance Day. An outdoor parade and service took place at the Memorial Park cenotaph at 9 a.m. This was followed by an indoor service of remembrance at 10:50 a.m. at the Swift Current Comprehensive High School. The formal Remembrance Day events in the city concluded with an afternoon luncheon at the Legion Hall.
