Coaldale Fun Run promises a day of fitness, fun, and community spirit
The Coaldale 5K Family Fun Run, one of the more anticipated events of the year, will be taking place on Saturday, April 22. This event, which has been a tradition in the community for many years, is hosted by the Coaldale Christian School and is designed to promote fitness, healthy lifestyles, and community spirit, as well as give back to the town of Coaldale. The Run still trying to get back to a prepandemic level of participation, which has seen a steady rise since.
Runners of all skill and age levels are encouraged to participate. The course is relativity easy, mostly flat terrain on asphalt, gravel and dirt roads. The event is open to individuals, teams, and families. The school and corporate team challenges are in full swing again this year, with numerous teams for both having already signed up.
The School Team Challenge is orchestrated by Coaldale Christian school, and offers a fun challenge for schools in southern Alberta, as well as great prizes. All students who enter in the school challenge are automatically entered to win 1 of 20- $50 Sport Chek Gift cards. The grand prize of $1500 going to the largest school teams’ athletic program. These prizes are generously donated by MNP, one of the largest full-service CPA and business advisory firms in Canada, and The Kinsmen Club of Coaldale, serving Coaldale’s greatest need since 1950.
The Corporate Team Challenge offers a competitive atmosphere between local businesses who can strut around in their corporate gear and support a great event. The largest team wins a $250 gift card to Franco’s Restaurant in Coaldale. And the fastest team will receive the engraved traveling trophy which can be proudly displayed in your business.
“The Coaldale Fun Run is a great way for people to come together and celebrate our community’s commitment to healthy living,” said Jacob Wiebe, President of the Coaldale Family Fun Run. “Whether you’re a seasoned runner or someone who’s just starting out, this event is for you. It’s a chance to challenge yourself, have fun, and make some new friends along the way.” Town of Coaldale Mayor Jack Van Rijn had this to say when asked his thoughts on the Coaldale Fun Run, “Members of Council and staff look forward to participating in the 12th annual Coaldale 5K Fun Run. There’s nothing more unstoppable than when people come together for a common goal, cheer each other on and have fun. Thank you to the organizers and volunteers for their hard work keeping this signature event one to look forward to.”
After a hard run, food and refreshments will be on hand to replenish the spent energy, with awards and prizes given after the race.
The Coaldale Fun Run is also an opportunity for participants to give back to the community. A portion of the proceeds from the event will be donated to the Coaldale Food Bank, with remaining proceeds going towards Future community enchantment projects.
