Second Annual Darren McClelland Memorial Charity Golf Classic coming June 2

- Contributed

The Dr. Noble Irwin Regional Healthcare Foundation & Swift Current Emergency Services are excited to announce the return of the 2nd Annual Darren McClelland Memorial Charity Golf Classic. The tournament will be held on June 2, 2023, at the Elmwood & Chinook Golf Courses, once again honouring the late Fire Chief Darren McClelland. Proceeds will be split between the Dr. Noble Irwin Foundation, Swift Current Fire Department, and Swift Current EMS to support healthcare and emergency services in the Southwest.

Last year marked the first time the tournament was ran under the new name and, with the blessing of the McClelland family, we are honoured to continue this annual tournament in memory of the man who committed his life to serving his community.

“Darren would be so humbled to know this tournament is in his honour. He has played in this tournament since it started. He was passionate about his career and serving his community.

He was a dedicated EMT and fire fighter. Ashley, Hayley and I are very proud to help carry on his legacy!” said Nicole McClelland.

Darren first served on the Swift Current EMS before moving to the Swift Current Fire Department where he served for over 22 years as a Fire Fighter, Deputy Chief and Chief.

“Darren has a special place in his heart for the Saskatchewan Professional Fire Fighters Burn Fund Association. Knowing that part of the proceeds from this tournament go to the burn fund is why he marked this day on his calendar every year,” says Kent Silbernagel Fire Capitan of C Platoon at the Swift Current Fire Department. "It was fantastic to see the way everyone supported this event last year and we are excited to keep it growing. It is a small way that we can honour Darren for what he contributed to all his family, friends, and the community he loved".

The Classic is open to 244 golfers in teams of four. Registration is $150 per golfer and includes cart rental, supper, and complimentary items. Registration opens on Monday, May 8 at 8am. To register for the Darren McClelland Memorial Charity Golf Classic email cimrie@dnif.ca
