MAKING A POLITICAL STATEMENT Springing into action for Canadians

- By John Barlow

As the sun sets on the winter months and April comes to a close, Conservatives are springing into action for Canadians, demanding accountability and fiscal common sense.

After submitting a budget which includes a destructive $43 billion deficit, this Liberal government has failed to prioritize Canadian families proving time and again they cannot be trusted to provide the resources you need. In a time of skyrocketing inflation, my conservative colleagues and I will continue to fight against Budget 2023 because it throws gas on the inflationary fire.

On April 1, the costly Liberal-NDP coalition increased the carbon tax again despite soaring inflation and a costof-living crisis. This increases taxes on all Albertans and Canadians making life even more unaffordable.

The Liberal tax and spend budget demands an additional $4,300 per family. The Trudeau government is out of control and feeding this 40-year record high inflation rate. The carbon tax increase will cost every Albertan family about $2,200 a year and will drive up the cost of groceries and everyday necessities. It will only get worse, when the Liberal-NDP carbon tax coalition triples the tax, in 2030 it will cost farm families an average of $150,000 a year, increasing production costs yet again. Conservatives know high production costs means higher food costs.

Grocery prices in Alberta have risen by 10.8%, one of the highest grocery inflation rates in Canada. As a result, according to Food Banks Canada, the use of food banks has increased by more than 15% and continues to rise. Although our economy is in a tailspin and Canadians are struggling to stay afloat, this government still increases taxes while the Prime Minister spends the hardearned pay cheques of Canadian taxpayers on lavish vacations and $6,000 per night London hotel rooms.

Canadians cannot afford the policies and tax hikes from the Liberal-NDP coalition and this is why we were demanding the budget not include any new taxes, and a freeze on the carbon and escalator taxes.

Between a record high inflation rate, foreign interference, hiking the carbon tax on Canadians, fertilizer tariffs, and a country wide housing crisis, this Liberal government has only made Canadians worse off. After eight years of incompetence, this Liberal government continues to fail at every turn, implementing dangerous policies and disregarding our powerful and job-creating resource industries. My Conservative colleagues and I vow to step up to the plate and push for change to allow Canadians and Albertans to put food on the table and a roof over their heads.
