Christmas tradition back in Med. Hat in December 2023
Prairie Post
It’s a tradition almost better than Santa Claus paying a visit Dec. 24-25.
The Medicine Hat Stampede and Exhibition’s 25th annual Beef Pen Show and Cowboy Christmas goes Dec. 15-16 at the Medicine Hat Exhibition Cypress Centre.
Commercial, purebred cattle from ranches across Western Canada and Montana are generally on hand.
There are also many 4-H clubs who make the trek to Medicine Hat. The show and sale is a beneficial way for producers to network and do some business. New and featured this year is a $500 cash prize added to the winning pen of every commercial cattle class (along with a buckle and banner).
New this year is the Purebred Breeders Showcase gives the opportunity to every Purebred Breeder Exhibitor who has cattle stalled at the event (display animals or in show) to showcase one Bull or Heifer.
A short description of this bull/heifer must be provided to the Medicine Hat Exhibition and Stampede by noon on Friday on the weekend of the show in order to participate. The animal will be lead around the ring. Description of the Showcase bull/heifer will be announced along with the Exhibitors Ranch name and location.
Purebred Breeders now will have the opportunity to enter the Pen of 3 Commercial Bred Heifers Class.
All the different categories include Commercial Open Heifers; Commercial Bred Heifers; Purebred Breeders Commercial Open Heifers; Purebred Breeders Showcase; Purebred Open Heifers; Purebred Bulls; Cattlemen’s Choice Bull Show; 4-H Heifer Show; 4-H Team Grooming Competition and 4-H Steer Show.
