RCMP: Uptick of “Car shoppers” during
Swift Current the holidays
The Swift Current Municipal RCMP have received a number of complaints about an individual(s) going through vehicles between Battleford Trail, Lister-Kaye Crescent and Tims Crescent in Swift Current in the early hours of the morning. At present, the only information RCMP have is that it is possibly a male riding a bicycle. If you live in this area and have video surveillance, please review your video or copy it and bring it to the RCMP Detachment located at 2 – 1 Avenue NE, in Swift Current.
With Christmas Travellers coming to visit family, here are some tips to protect your property:
- It’s not enough to put your vehicle keys, or anything valuable, in a cup holder or behind a visor, you must remove them from your vehicle and lock the doors.
- Even having spare change kept in your
vehicle can make it a possible target.
- Always remember to remove your garage door opener from your vehicle – if it is stolen, it can mean someone has access to everything inside your garage and even your home if it’s connected to your garage.
- Report crimes, even if they are small, to police as soon as possible. When all crimes are reported to the police, officers get a clearer picture of the types and numbers of crimes occurring in their area. This information helps them launch future police projects, initiatives and education campaigns. A reminder that some complaints such as damage/mischief to property under $5,000, theft of bicycle under $5,000, theft under $5,000, theft from vehicle under $5,000, lost or found property and damage/mischief to vehicle under $5000 can be reported online to the RCMP here: http://report.rcmp.ca. You can use this alwaysavailable, simple option if:
- There are no witnesses or suspects.
- Item(s) lost or stolen are worth less than $5,000.
- Vandalized property will cost less than $5,000 to repair.
- There are no items involving personal identity, firearms, license plates or decals.
If anyone has information on thefts within the City of Swift Current, please contact Swift Current RCMP at 306-778-4870 or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
