On Feb. 9, SARCAN Recycling was proud to celebrate the opening of their bigger, brighter, and more modern recycling depot in the Town of Gull Lake. The new Gull Lake SARCAN depot is located at 439 Main Street, just across the street from the previous location. The Gull Lake SARCAN depot is open to the public Tuesday to Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to noon and 1-5 p.m.

The new depot on Main Street is much larger than the previous recycling depot and features a more spacious customer reception area for people to recycle their beverage containers, paint, electronics, and batteries. The new depot also has expanded space for Drop & Go, SARCAN’s popular line skipping service. This new SARCAN depot also has more capacity for serving large volume customers, such as bottle drives, fundraisers, schools, restaurants, and businesses.

The relocation of SARCAN’s depot in Gull Lake was a response to increased demand for SARCAN’s recycling services in the community. Having first opened its doors in Gull Lake in 1989, the volume of materials that customers from Gull Lake and surrounding communities recycle at this location has steadily increased over the past 35 years. The Gull Lake SARCAN depot now serves almost 3,500 customers annually, recycling over 1,000,000 beverage containers each year.

“SARCAN Recycling is a leader in environmental protection, creating employment opportunities for people of all abilities, and building up the communities we serve.” says SARC and SARCAN Recycling’s Executive Director, Amy McNeil. “We are proud to be a part of the sustainable development of Gull Lake. SARCAN is very happy to relocate to a bigger, brighter, and more modern recycling depot to serve the growing recycling needs of the community. Our team in Gull Lake is excited to welcome you to this new SARCAN depot!”

SARCAN’s team of over 900 employees collects and recycles over 490 million beverage containers each year, serving over 1.5 million customers in 65 communities across Saskatchewan. Beyond beverage containers, SARCAN also responsibly recycles household paint, end-of-life electronics, and household batteries in every one of its recycling depots.

SARCAN Recycling’s mandate is to provide a socially responsible and environmentally progressive recycling system that helps foster the sustainable development of communities across Saskatchewan. SARCAN’s parent organization is SARC, the provincial association that provides consultation, training, services and leadership to community-based organizations.
