Liberals attempt to rebrand their failed carbon tax “rebate”

- By John Barlow John Barlow is the MP for Foothills ands.

You cannot put lipstick on a pig and expect Canadians to suddenly support the punishing carbon tax, but the Liberal-NDP government thinks after eight years of Trudeau’s crime, corruption and chaos Canadians are that gullible.

Instead of providing families with the relief they desperately need and axing the tax, the Liberals are “rebranding” it, increasing it, charging the GST on top of and hiking the escalator tax – all on the same day.

The Canadian standing in line outside of a food bank doesn’t care the Prime Minister wants them to call this useless policy a “rebate” instead of an “incentive payment.” They just need to be able to put food on the table.

This is just another desperate attempt from the Liberals to distract Canadians from the misery Trudeau is causing. Only Common Sense Conservatives will scrap the carbon tax entirely so Canadians can afford to eat, heat and house themselves.

Canadians are visiting food banks in record numbers, and people are having to choose between filling up their car, heating their home and feeding their family.

Thanks to Trudeau’s inflationary carbon tax, a typical family of four will have to pay $700 more in groceries in 2024 compared to last year. The Parliamentary Budget Officer made it clear, the carbon tax costs Canadians more than they get back in the phony rebates and the gap will be come worse on April 1 when the Liberal-NDP carbon tax coalition increases the carbon tax 23%.

The PBO report highlights that Albertans receive a $1,800 rebate, but the gross cost of the carbon tax is $2,943. Therefore, Trudeau is going to take away $2,943 but give back $1,8000 and then ask for Albertans to be thankful for it. That is proof that the carbon tax is just like Trudeau: not worth the cost. Watch our Leader, Pierre Poilievre, call out Trudeau on his phony rebates.

Thank you to the many constituents who have taken the time to send me their heating bills, highlighting the enormous carbon tax charge and GST charge on top of that. I want to assure you that Common sense Conservatives will put an end to Trudeau’s costly carbon tax and return affordability on heat, gas and groceries back to all Canadians. In the meantime, I am proud of my colleague and Conservative MP, Alex Ruff, for introducing bill C-368 to remove the GST from the carbon tax.
