September is Library Card Sign-Up Month at Chinook Arch
If you haven’t been to your local library in a while, you might just be amazed at what your library card can do. With September being Library Card Sign-Up Month now is the time to visit your local library to sign-up or renew your existing card.
Since 1987, Library Card Sign-Up Month has been held each September to mark the beginning of the school year. It’s a fitting reminder of the value that a card can bring to your life – no matter your age or interests.
“The library is no longer just a building full of books,” says Robin Hepher, Chinook Arch Regional Library System CEO. “Today’s library meets you wherever you are. You can borrow audiobooks, TV shows, online courses, and more using your phone or tablet. The library is still the best deal in town!”
The local library is a welcoming space that anyone can enjoy, with or without a card. Programs are free to the public, as is the Wi-Fi. However, a library card allows the holder to check out books, DVDs, and video games; some libraries even offer toys, board games, camping equipment. Of course, one of the modern draws of owning a library card is access to an array of online resources. Audiobooks, eBooks, eMagazines, and online newspapers are just the beginning; cardholders can also access interactive language lessons, take online courses, download educational apps for children, or get homework help – all for free.
Another draw of the Chinook Arch member library card is the ability to search for items online, place a hold, and have them delivered to your local library.
“Chinook Arch is made up of 33 independent libraries that share their collections, expertise, and resources,” explains Hepher. “No matter where you live in southwestern Alberta, you have access to over 850,000 books, movies, and more – and thousands of digital resources that you can access anytime, anywhere!”
If all that wasn’t enough to entice you, anybody that signs-up or renews their library card in the month of September will be entered to win a prize. Adults have the chance to win a new tablet, while children can win a $100 Toys R Us gift card.
