Local photograph­ers unite for 8th annual 'help-portrait'

A group of profession­al photograph­ers will be offering free, high-quality family portraits to people in Lethbridge who, for a variety of reasons, might not be able to afford a family photo this holiday season.

Through a unique program called “Help-Portrait” individual­s and families in need can attend the event at CASA located at 230 8th street south, on Saturday, November 10, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m, and benefit from the collective profession­al creativity of more than 40 volunteers, photograph­ers, lighting experts, makeup artists and stylists to receive a free portrait.

Help-Portrait is a worldwide movement that started in 2008 and has evolved to a point where, to date, more than 380000 portraits have been given by just over 75,440 photograph­ers in 67 countries.

Last year, in lethbridge helped over 300 people, total of 100 families get portraits.

“Every year the impact of this event touches the hearts of the whole city” event director and profession­al photograph­er Steven Layton said. “We can?t wait to help more people this year.”

“We have reached out to a number of community organizati­ons to help us explain the Help-Portrait concept, and we are confident that the people who can benefit from this experience will be able to take advantage of it.”

Help-Portrait, a not-for-profit organizati­on, was formed in 2008 by celebrity photograph­er Jeremy Cowart as he contemplat­ed using his skills and expertise to give back to those who may not have the opportunit­y for a profession­al photo. The idea quickly spread through social media such as Twitter, Facebook and blogging and continues to grow..

Help-Portrait Lethbridge will take place on Saturday November 10th,2018 from 11a.m. to 6 p.m. at the CASA Located at 230 - 8th Street South, Lethbridge.
