Grand Opening of Crestview Lodge in Pincher Creek

- BY HEATHER CAMERON

Another needed facility for seniors was added to the southwest this year and was officially celebrated.

The grand opening of Crestview Seniors Lodge in Pincher Creek took place Oct. 24.

Lethbridge-East MLA Maria Fitzpatrick, on behalf of Seniors and Housing Minister Lori Sigurdson, was on site to help celebrate the grand opening of the new lodge.

“We heard concerns from families and residents that the original lodge, built in 1960, had reached the end of its life cycle and we agreed with that,” Jennifer Burgess, Press Secretary for the Office of the Minister for Seniors and Housing and the Office of the Minister for Infrastructure “Our priorities are Albertans’ priorities and that’s why we’re building a brand new facility for families in Pincher Creek.”

Residents began moving into the lodge this spring after construction was completed in March. The new facility features 44 bachelor-style units, which have a combined living/sleeping area with a small kitchenette and in-suite washroom; and six one-bedroom units, including in-suite washrooms. Other features in the new lodge include modern fire-suppression and safety systems, provided meals, housekeeping, laundry, on-site hairdressing; social activities, recreational opportunities, home-care, and rooftop gardens.

Crestview Lodge is being funded through a $10.2 million combined grant provided by the Government of Alberta and the Government of Canada. The Pincher Creek Foundation also provided $3.85 million towards the creation and construction of the lodge.

“The community is excited to have this new facility available for seniors,” Burgess said. “Having the new Crestview Lodge available means local seniors will be able to stay in their home town close to their friends and family, instead of moving elsewhere to accommodate their changing needs.”

Burgess said that there are other government support seniors facilities in the area and they are Canyon Manor I , a 12-unit, self-contained facility; Canyon Manor II, a six-unit, selfcontained facility; and Willow Court, a six-unit, self-contained facility, units Seniors Self Contained. The Good Samaritan Society and Whispering Winds Village also provide seniors accommodation in the area.

“I am proud of our government’s commitment to supporting seniors and their families in Pincher Creek and surrounding communities with this significant investment in the new Crestview Lodge,” Lori Sigurdson, Minister of Alberta Seniors and Housing, said. “We want seniors in Alberta to look forward to many years of care and dignity in the communities they helped to build. Seniors built this province and we have their backs.”
