Book Fairies make an appearance at Chinook
The Book Fairy made an appearance in Chinook Arch Libraries across Southern Alberta.
“The (Nov. 2 Book Fairies) project was very well-received in all of the communities where libraries took part,” noted Joey Going, Communications Specialist for Chinook Arch Library in an interview with Prairie Post.
“Many people contacted the library either in-person or via social media to share their excitement at being the lucky one to find a book.”
Going says 22 libraries participated in the project and that library staff acted as their library's designated Book Fairies, hiding four books per library.
In total, 88 books were hidden throughout the region.
The libraries that participated were in Arrowwood, Barnwell, Cardston, Champion, Coaldale, Coutts, Fort Macleod, Glenwood, Grassy Lake, both Lethbridge libraries, Magrath, Milk River, Milo, Nanton, Picture Butte, Pincher Creek, Stirling, Taber, Vauxhall, Vulcan, and Warner.
“Book Fairies believe in the power of the written word and in the happiness that a present from a stranger can bring. Who better to demonstrate these beliefs than local library staff?” Going said.
“The books were chosen to provide reading material to all ages, and include a picture book, a junior fiction book, a young adult selection, and an adult fiction paperback.”
