Two $500 grants presented to charitable groups in SW Alta.
With the holiday season in full swing, the Community Foundation of Lethbridge and Southwestern Alberta brought tidings of joy this week to some worthy recipients. In commemoration of a few good deeds performed on Random Acts of Kindness Day (RAK Day) this November, the Community Foundation presented two Kindness Grants, each in the amount of $500, to Lethbridge Corridor Victim Services Unit and Coalhurst Elementary School.
Lethbridge Corridor Victim Services was chosen as the recipient of a Kindness Grant by Cayleigh Hamilton, who selected the organization in recognition of the importance of their work in helping those going through crises. She was joined by Community Foundation Executive Director Charleen Davidson to deliver the grant to Victim Services Program Manager Adonus Arlett and Madison the therapy dog (photo attached).
The second Kindness Grant went to Coalhurst Elementary School, chosen by student Jaxson Dietl. This grant will support upgrades to the school’s playground equipment. On behalf of his school, Jaxson accepted the cheque during a holiday-themed school assembly Thursday morning (photo attached).
“It’s exciting that we’ve been able to carry forward the spirit of Random Acts of Kindness Day into the season of giving,” said Davidson. “We’re delighted to join with our RAK participants and help make Southwestern Alberta kinder, one act at a time.”
These grants are just two of 10 Kindness Grants awarded as the culmination of RAK Day. Other grants already awarded include those to Wood’s Homes, Oldman Watershed Council, Dr. Probe Elementary School, Empress Theatre Society, the MS Society, Southern Alberta Self-Help Association, the University of Lethbridge Students’ Union Food Bank, and Water for People Canada —all chosen by kindhearted people like Cayleigh and Jaxson.
