Milk River Community Awareness Potluck Jan. 24

- BY HEATHER CAMERON

Milk River will hold their second Community Awareness Potluck dinner on January 24 at 6 p.m.

“The purpose is to make people aware of what groups and organizations we have in town,” Suzanne Liebelt, one of the organizers of the event, said. It’s also a chance for those groups to hopefully gain more members.”

Liebelt says that the Village of Warner had success with a community awareness potluck last year, and so the Milk River Community Business Association thought such an event would be good for Milk River and thus, the first community potluck was held in the spring.

“We thought it could benefit our local organizations to showcase what we have/ do in our community,” Liebelt said. “We felt that especially new people could learn what they could be involved with and remind all of our citizens that there is something for everyone.”

The potluck, Liebelt says, will also feature local groups speaking about what they have to offer the community and those groups will also be able to have recruiting tables on-site if they wish. After the last potluck, which had about 100 in attendance, the Business Association spent time collecting names of local groups and their contact details so that anyone who wanted to be involved again could be.

“If we get a good turn out and response from organizations and guests this year, I’m sure we will do it again next year,” Liebelt said. “We got a lot of positive feed back after last years pot luck and have had good support so far this year.”

Liebelt says that the Milk River Community Business Association will be covering the cost of any needed supplies and that the local District and Ag Society has offered the use of the Milk River Civic Center for the event. Liebelt adds that there was no need for fundraising to host the event, as costs were kept to a minimum.

“I feel it is a good way for every group that has something to offer or needs more members to showcase what they do,” Liebelt said. “It is also nice for people to go to one event and be able to get a good idea of what our community has to offer and hopefully find something they would like to be involved with.”
