Aquafun Centre reopens after health scare

- CONTRIBUTED

The Town of Taber was thankful for the public for their patience while the Town addressed a COVID-19 case at the Aquafun Centre.

Upon identification of the positive case, the Aquafun Centre staff immediately implemented the Town’s COVID-19 protocols for the safety of our patrons and staff. While the employee had not been at the Aquafun Centre from the onset of symptoms, out of an abundance of caution, this resulted in the Aquafun Centre being temporarily closed.

Staff have since done a thorough deep-cleaning of the entire facility. As an extra-enhanced measure, a commercial cleaning service was contracted to provide additional cleaning by utilizing disinfecting fogging equipment. In addition, staff have replaced all air exchange filters to ensure good air quality in the building.

Given this cleaning and the fact that all proper close-contact tracing protocols have been followed as per AHS guidelines, the Town of Taber is announcing that the Aquafun Centre will be reopened for regular programming as of Friday, August 27th.

This also means that registrants for the Cornfest Fun Run are able to pick up their packages at the Aquafun Centre starting Friday the 27th as normal.

All Aquafun Centre Staff have been evaluated for contact tracing by Alberta Health Services, and those who are not considered close contacts have been cleared by AHS to return to work. All staff continue to follow the mandates for isolation and close contact monitoring as outlined by AHS.

The public is once again reminded that unless you are contacted by Alberta Health Services for contact tracing, there is no need for concern.

As a precaution upon reopening, all staff will be wearing masks and will continue disinfecting the Centre regularly throughout operating times as they have been doing. Patrons are reminded to stay home if they are feeling ill.

The Town of Taber wants to thank the public for their cooperation while our Centre was closed. We would additionally like to thank the public for their concern for our staff’s safety and wellbeing.
