Coaldale’s new electric Zamboni showcased at arena
Electric Zamboni partially funded through AUMA and Friends of the Arena grants
The Town of Coaldale has purchased a brand-new electric Zamboni with $50,000 in funding from the Electric Vehicles for Municipalities (EVM) Funding Agreement through the Alberta Urban Municipalities Association (AUMA). The purpose of this fund is to support municipalities in their transition to electrically-fuelled transportation and is supported by the Municipal Climate Change Action Centre (MCCAC), “an organization that provides funding, technical assistance, and educationThe to municipalities… to improve climate resilience”.
“Our staff have been fully trained to use the new piece of equipment,” said Russ Tanner, Director of Recreation and Community Services at the Town of Coaldale. “The new electric Zamboni is quieter and will produce less emissions in the facility, which will result in a huge improvement for the indoor air quality.”
Friends of the Arena also provided
$35,000 in funding towards purchasing the Zamboni.
“We’re greatly appreciative of AUMA and the Friends of the Arena for creating the opportunity for Coaldale to purchase its first electric vehicle,” said Coaldale Mayor Jack Van Rijn. “We’re very excited to see it in operation, ensuring quality ice while reducing fuel costs and greenhouse gas emissions.”
