Alberta Association of Agricultural Societies awards Coaldale resident a scholarship at 75th annual convention
The Alberta Association of Agricultural Societies held its Annual 75th Anniversary Convention at the River Cree Resort & Casino in Edmonton, presented by Servus Credit Union, attracting 220 delegates from 70 Ag Societies from across the province as well as guests from Ag Societies in Ontario and Manitoba and the President of CAFÉ Amanda Frigon.
Alberta Association of Agricultural Societies opened the weekend on Friday with our Minister/MLA Forum, with Nate Horner, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry & Rural Economic Development MLA Mark Smith on hand to answer questions from delegates.
The opening Keynote Speaker was Dr. Lisa Belanger talking about Rebuilding Connection & Community and Doug Griffiths from 13 Ways was our closing Keynote talking about
Everything is about to Change – Adapt or Die.

Four Scholarships :
• Alyson Blain of Cottonwood Gordan Agricultural Society;
• Zachery Farr of Vegreville Agricultural Society;
• Amanda Hardman of Spruce Grove & District Agricultural Society;
• Barrt Maayen of Coaldale & District Agricultural Society.
Our 2022 Honor Roll Recipients were Ellen Bonde from the Rocky Mountain House Ag Society and Brend Moon from the Airdrie Ag Society Award of Merit was awarded to Chris Sisson from Superior Tent Rentals. Outstanding Supporter of Agriculture was Charles Newell from the Radway Ag Society.
Agriculture, Forestry & Rural Economic Development presented Innovation Awards to Calmar & Rocky Mountain House Ag Societies as well as presenting AAAS with their 75th Anniversary Plaque. The Highlevel Bridge in Edmonton was lit up in AAAS Colours to commemorate the 75th Anniversary.
Delegates were able to attend various Sessions throughout the weekend from Financial Literacy, Community Resiliency, Volunteer Recruitment, Farmers Market Training, Delegation, Strategic Planning and Government Relations
There were 30 Tradeshow Exhibitors to showcase their product and services to AAAS Delegates.
AAAS handed out 32 Awards in our Marketing Competitions where Ag Society’s submitted Fair Posters, Fair Books, Website Designs and Social Media Advertising for their events.
AAAS had various Showcase acts throughout the weekend where entertainers could be on our large or small stage for the Ag Societies to see them perform. The AAAS Farm Safety Show was part of the small showcase to view with hopes that Ag Societies will bring this show to their communities to help promote Farm Safety.
The 75th Anniversary Video Project was unveiled at the Convention.
