LPIRG announces new executive director
The Lethbridge Public Interest Research Group (LPIRG) announced that Sydney Chertoff, a University of Lethbridge graduate student, is taking on the role of LPIRG’s Executive Director.
Sydney came to Lethbridge, Blackfoot territory in Treaty 7 and Metis Region 3, in 2018 as an international graduate student from the United States. She has her Master of Science through the Psychology Department at the University of Lethbridge, and is currently pursuing her PhD in the same department.
“I have learned a tremendous amount about the Lethbridge community as well as the campus community through LPIRG. I know I’ve only begun to scratch the surface”, commented Sydney Chertoff. “I’m very motivated to continue to learn from our board and support the community on our campus, throughout the city, and beyond. I’m looking forward to listening, learning, and to helping LPIRG achieve its goals for the community as a whole”.
Sydney has worked with LPIRG since 2020 in various roles, including the coordination and facilitation of a city wide mailout of a resource postcard and has served as a community member on the LPIRG board of directors since 2021.
“I am thrilled that Sydney is stepping into the role of Executive Director of LPIRG”, comments Jenn Prosser, LPIRG’s outgoing Executive Director. “She has worked with LPIRG for the last two years, and has demonstrated her strong leadership skills and attention to detail in LPIRG’s operations.
I have full confidence that under Sydney’s leadership, LPIRG will continue to grow in its capacity to support students and build stronger communities in Lethbridge”, continues Prosser.
LPIRG is a student-funded, studentdirected, not-for-profit organization providing resources for undergraduate students to engage with environmental and social justice issues.
