- CONTRIBUTED

Prospective students from Piikani Nation and other southern Alberta Indigenous communities are gearing up to spend a day experiencing Lethbridge College’s Wind Turbine Technician program.

Prospective students climbed the training platform, explored the inner workings of a nacelle and learn more about this green energy career during an experiential learning day March 16.

The event was hosted by Recruitment Services, in conjunction with Indigenous Services and the Wind Turbine Technician program, and is sponsored by Enel Green Power.

In November 2020, Lethbridge College and Enel Green Power announced they were partnering to create opportunities in renewable energy for Indigenous learners in southern Alberta. The unique collaboration is designed to support the education of Indigenous students who are interested in pursuing careers in wind energy.

The day opens with a prayer and will include a smudging ceremony over the lunch hour. Prospective students will be divided into two groups to hear about the Wind Turbine Technician program, go on a campus tour and learn more about Lethbridge College. Both groups experienced the same activities but at different points during the day.
