The Ennis Sisters bring captivating harmonies to the Empress

- Contributed

The Ennis Sisters are bringing their energetic performing style to the Empress for the final concert in our Centre Stage Series on April 29 at 7:30 p.m.

Flavoured by Celtic and traditional Newfoundland influences, The Ennis Sisters are known for their captivating sibling harmonies and their powerful, often humorous, storytelling.

Their music offers a broad mix of original songs as well as uniquely interpreted tunes and ballads.

Maureen, Karen, and Teresa were born in Newfoundland and raised on traditional Irish songs. They began performing for family and friends, then landed local gigs in pubs and began touring the festival circuit.

The Ennis Sisters stepped into the spotlight in 1997 with the release of their debut album, Red is the Rose, which earned them the Music Industry Association of Newfoundland & Labrador (MIA) Folk Album of the Year Award. More than 20 years later, with 12 albums, a JUNO Award, multiple East Coast Music Awards, MIA awards and a SOCAN for top grossing Canadian country song, Maureen, Karen and Teresa have performed on some of the world’s most prestigious stages and festivals.

They have recently recorded a new collection of original songs, Onward, produced by Alan Doyle, which is set to be released in June 2022.

Tickets for The Ennis Sisters are $37.50 each and available at MacleodEmpress. com, by calling 403-553-4404 (toll-free at 1-800-540-9229), or at the Box Office on Main Street.

The Empress Theatre is currently operating under the province’s Restrictions Exemption Program for our Centre Stage Series concerts only. Prior to entering the theatre, patrons must show proof of full vaccination and photo identification. Masks must be worn to enter and move about the theatre.

The Empress Theatre in Fort Macleod is a rare gem: one of the oldest operating theatres in the country.

Built in 1912, the elegant Empress hosts movies, musicals and musicians throughout the year. From the neon tulip lights that grace the theatre’s pressed tin ceiling, to the original ticket wicket and dressing rooms (not to mention our resident ghost, Ed), the Empress is a special place where neighbours gather to celebrate and nurture local, Albertan and Canadian performers.
