Renewal deadline for commercial carriers extended

-

Alberta’s government has extended the deadline for commercial carriers to renew Safety Fitness Certificates (SFC) that are required to operate in Alberta.

Commercial carriers have until June 28, 2022 to renew their SFCs. This deadline applies to carriers that obtained their certificate before March 1, 2019.

Regular renewal of SFCs every three years ensures commercial carriers are accurately reporting time spent on the roads, sharing insurance information, and are demonstrating that they meet required safety standards.

“The first priority in Alberta Transportation is safety on our roads, and that’s why the SFC policy was created. Transportation sectors have faced unprecedented challenges from the COVID pandemic to continuous strains on our supply chain. We are working with all commercial carriers to ensure their certificates are completed so they can stay in business,” said Rajan Sawhney, Minister of Transportation.

Carriers that do not renew their Safety Fitness Certificates before June 28 will have their certificate cancelled and will not be able to legally operate in Alberta. Carriers with an expired certificate will need to reapply and may be required to complete the mandatory pre-entry program for National Safety Code commercial carriers.
