Thanks to a $360,000 donation from KCL Cattle Company LTD, the Coaldale STRONG! Capital Campaign is getting closer to reaching its goal of generating $2 million in philanthropic support for Coaldale’s new multi-use recreation centre.

KCL Cattle Company LTD is a feedlot and farm near Coaldale that is proudly owned and operated by Les and Lisa Wall, along with their two daughters (Celia and Karleen) and son-in-law (Jared).

“Our family set down roots in Coaldale in the 1920s and, since then, we have been fortunate to run and grow our business in the Coaldale area,” said the Wall’s in a joint statement.

While $150,000 of KCL’s donation will be used to fund the recreation centre’s indoor playground area, the remaining $210,000 will be used to sponsor the centre’s indoor walking/running track. “This project is something we are very excited about, and we are grateful for the opportunity to give back to our community,” said the Wall’s. “As an active family, we are happy to contribute to the health and wellness of our community by donating to the indoor walking/running track and the kid’s indoor playground.”

Once operational, Coaldale’s new recreation centre will stand as a centrepiece for recreation, sports, and

special events in Southern Alberta. It will also serve as a hub for the local community. Programming will be designed to attract participation from all ages and will consist not only of activities directed towards enhancing people’s quality of life, but also,

of activities directed towards growing Coaldale’s economic prosperity.

“We’re tremendously grateful to the KCL Cattle Company for its gift to the capital campaign,” said Coaldale Mayor Jack Van Rijn. “Donations from generous donors like KCL will make sure we can

hit the ground running as soon as the facility opens and offer full programming to the community. KCL’s remarkable generosity will have a lasting impact on our community. I would also like to note that this isn’t the first time KCL has donated funds to support recreation in our community. In July 2020, the Wall’s donated funds to cover the cost of a ‘day use’ picnic shelter at our recently revitalized Eastview Park, adding a much-needed amenity to the $400,000 project.”
