Courthouse rally concluded without incident Nov. 4

-

Lethbridge Police, with assistance from Alberta Sheriffs, Calgary Police Service and RCMP, worked in partnership to maintain public safety while respecting the democratic right to peaceful assembly during a gathering of approximately 500 people at the Lethbridge Courthouse last Friday morning.

The assembly was in relation to court appearances by three men charged in connection with the Coutts blockade earlier this year.

Roads and business access in the area remained open to regular vehicle and foot traffic throughout the event, however police were stationed at various intersections to restrict tractor trailers and other heavy equipment from leaving truck routes to enter the downtown core.

Earlier this morning a slow-moving convoy of supporters also made their way around the perimeter of the downtown core but there were no disruptions to the flow of regular vehicle traffic.

With the exception of a few parking challenges as a result of the influx of people and vehicles, the gathering was peaceful and no police action was required.

No further information will be released and police will not be conducting interviews in relation to this matter.
