Lethbridge Police seeking dash cam footage of vehicle stolen in carjacking

Lethbridge Police continue to investigate a carjacking where a senior citizen was assaulted over the weekend and are seeking assistance from anyone who may have recorded dash cam footage of the vehicle after it was abandoned or picked up a hitchhiker east of the city.

On November 4, 2022 at approximately 4:50 p.m. police responded to a 911 call reporting a 77-year-old female had been assaulted and her vehicle stolen from the Bank of Montreal parking lot along the 600 block of 4 Avenue South. Investigation determined the senior had parked her Hyundai Santa Fe SUV and was making her way inside when a male grabbed her from behind, forcibly took her keys and threw her to the ground. He proceeded to her vehicle and left the area at a high rate of speed. The victim sustained nonlife-threatening injuries. The subject is described as a young male, late teens, with black hair, wearing dark clothing and a dark-coloured toque.

On November 5, 2022 police located the white 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe SUV abandoned in the westbound lanes of Highway 3, east of the city in the rest area just south of Range Road 21-2 near Marshall Metals Scrap Recycling.

Police are asking anyone who may have been travelling through the area between Nov. 4 at 4:50 p.m. and Nov. 5 at 1:40 p.m. and has dash cam footage or picked up a hitchhiker, to call 403-328-4444 and reference file 22024253.
