Flatlander­s race raises $6,000

The 18th annual Flatlander­s Road Race is to begin this morning at the Canada Games Athletics Complex.

The event will include fivekilome­tre, 10km and halfmarath­on races, and is expected to attract 600 runners.

Proceeds from the race have generated $6,000 for the Hospitals of Regina Foundation by the Regina Road Runners Club, which organizes the Flatlander­s run.

The cheque is to be presented before this morning’s races begin.

The Regina Rogues will have home-field advantage in the Saskatchew­an Rugby Union Division 1 provincial final against the Saskatoon Wild Oats today at Regina Rugby Park.

Cruising past the Condors 30-0 in the southern division semifinal on Sept. 15, the Rogues beat the Grads 38-14 in the league final last Saturday to reach today’s final.

Action is to start at noon with a friendly between northern Saskatchew­an’s Division 2 champions, the Krems, and an all-star team from Regina, featuring players from Regina’s Condors and Highlander­s teams.

A provincial women’s 15-a-side exhibition game is to follow at 2 p.m. with the main event slated for 4 p.m.

The O’Neill Titans junior boys volleyball team won both of its matches on Thursday in Regina High Schools Athletic Associatio­n play at Martin Collegiate.

The Titans came back after losing the first set against the host Monarchs to win 2325, 25-21, 15-13. O’Neill then beat the Campbell Tartans 27-25, 12-25, 15-13.

Campbell defeated Martin 25-17, 25-15 to complete the triplehead­er.
