Mcmorris wins two gold medals

Regina snowboarde­r Mark McMorris celebrated a double gold-medal win on the weekend.

McMorris landed three triple corks during the contest and won the men’s big air event held at iOn Mountain Championsh­ip in Breckenrid­ge, Colo. His score of 96.75 beat out second-place finisher Sage Kostenburg (81.75) and Staale Sandbech (69.25), who placed third.

On Sunday, McMorris collected his second gold medal in the men’s slopestyle event. He scored a 90 on his first run and a 95 on his second run.

This was McMorris’s second event of the young season. Two weeks ago, he placed sixth overall at the Beijing Big Air in China.

The Regina Rebels swept the Battleford­s Sharks in a two-game series at home this weekend at the Co-operators Centre in Saskatchew­an Female Midget AAA Hockey League action.

The Rebels beat the Sharks 12-0 on Saturday. Teah Anderson scored a hat trick, Hannah Heisler and Delaney Frey each scored a pair and Nikki Watters-Matthes, Erica Rieder, Vayda Kotyk, Leah Bohlken and Emma Waldenberg­er added singles. Tatum Shand had the shutout with 14 saves.

Andie Wilyman and Waldenberg­er scored on Sunday, to lead the Rebels to a 2-1 win. Morgan Lamontagne scored for the Sharks. Rae McClintock stopped 12 shots for Regina.

The Rebels are next on the ice Wednesday night at 7:45 at the Co-operators Centre against the Melville Fox FM Prairie Fire.

The Sheldon-Williams Spartans junior girls basketball team defeated Centennial High School, from Calgary, 48-46 to win the Jasper Place High School REB Invitation­al basketball tournament on the weekend.

Anna Marcotte-Cribb of the Spartans was named the MVP of the title game, and her teammate Elizabeth Hart was named the tournament MVP.
