Body found at Regina home is female
The Regina Police Service (RPS) is releasing few details about the discovery of a body on Friday night other than to confirm that the deceased is female.
Regina police, in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner, are continuing a suspicious death investigation after a deceased person was found in a house on the 1100 block of Cameron Street on Friday around 9 p.m.
Police requested that the coroner and Major Crimes and Forensic Identification investigators attend the scene.
According to a news release issued by the RPS on Monday morning, investigators have confirmed the deceased person is female, but they still require more information in order to confirm the individual’s identity and age.
“We have no confirmation that this is either a youth or adult female,” said RPS spokeswoman Elizabeth Popowich.
The coroner has ordered an autopsy, which is scheduled for today. It is hoped this process will confirm the individual’s identity and provide answers about the cause and manner of death.
The RPS recognizes that an unexplained death of any person generates anxiety among the public, particularly the families of missing persons. Investigators are working with the Office of the Chief Coroner to confirm identity and to provide closure to one family and some relief to others.
Police are holding the Cameron Street residence until more is known about the circumstances of the death.
Anyone who has information about the suspicious death is asked to contact the Regina Police Service at 7776500 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
“If anyone noted suspicious activity or anything you thought was unusual around that address, please contact police,” Popowich said.
