Narcisse, insurance brokers help Kidsport

Saskatchew­an Roughrider­s legend Don Narcisse has helped the Insurance Brokers’ Associatio­n of Saskatchew­an raise $27,000 for KidSport.

IBAS recently held an auction at its convention. The auction featured memorabili­a from Narcisse — a long-time supporter of KidSport — and other former Roughrider­s. KidSport helps disadvanta­ged children take part in community sports programs.

Narcisse and IBAS also teamed up in 2010, raising $21,000 for KidSport.

“Don really captures the spirit of what a pro sports hero in this province is all about,’’ IBAS executive director Ernie Gaschler said in a media release. “He left a lasting impression the last time we worked together and we were really happy to do it again.’’

The Regina Rowing Club presented its awards for the 2012 season on Sunday.

The athletes of the year were Anna Currie (junior female), Willy Bingham (junior male) and Robert Blake (senior male).

Crew-of-the-year awards were presented to Dawn Jorgensen and Stefanie Sweeney (senior female), Dave Millar and Russ Hart (masters men), Kathy Black and Kelly Silcox (masters women), and Donna Ell, Marc Ell, Michelle Carr and Mo Bundon (mixed masters).

Julie Nguyen and Sarah Bester were named the most improved athletes of the year.

Ian Mitchell and Donna Ell were honoured as volunteer coaches of the year.

Black received the member-of-the-year award.

Ian McNulty of the Melville Millionair­es is the SJHL’s player of the week.

The 20-year-old forward from Brooks, Alta., had four goals and three assists in three games.

He has 13 goals and a league-high 42 points in 28 games.

Mitch Boucher of the Notre Dame Hounds is the defenceman of the week. The 20-year-old Moose Jaw product had at least one point in three of his team’s four games last week. He is second among SJHL defencemen in scoring.

Battleford­s North Stars goalie Casey Parker is the rookie of the week. The former Regina Pat Canadians netminder played 106 minutes of scoreless hockey last week in relief of an injured Connor Creech.

Melville’s Alex Wakaluk is the goalie of the week. Wakaluk had a 3-0 record last week, stopping 97 of the 102 shots he faced for a .951 save-percentage. He posted a 1.67 goals-against average for the week.

Saskatoon Blades forward Josh Nicholls is the WHL’s player of the week.

Nicholls had three goals and five assists in four games, all of which were Blades victories.
